NBT results, university registration and NSFAS funding notices: delivery to South African students

Hundreds of thousands of South African students write the National Benchmark Tests (NBT) and move through the university admissions cycle each year. NSFAS administers funding and allowances. 4notify delivers NBT results, university registration notices and NSFAS funding reminders by SMS, push and email.

Preamble

Section 1 — In terms of the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997 and the NSFAS Act 56 of 1999, this Indaba is convened on the delivery of higher-education notifications.

Statutory basis
Higher Education Act 101 of 1997

Framework for universities and the regulation of higher-education admissions.

NSFAS Act 56 of 1999

Student financial aid administration, funding decisions and allowance disbursement.

Implementation
01

4notify ingests registration events on the university side; placement, registration and residence allocation are normalised.

02

Two-channel critical-decision delivery

Results day: push (instant) + SMS (2 min fallback) + email (5 min fallback).

03

NSFAS funding reminder

NSFAS funding and allowance payments trigger a start-of-month reminder; residence allocation uses a QR-coded acceptance.

The 4notify difference

4notify is the only A2P provider that ingests NBT and university registration events, delivers placement decisions in one envelope by push/SMS/email and tracks the NSFAS funding calendar.

Frequently asked questions
Does 4notify replace NBT or the universities?

No. 4notify operates downstream of NBT and the universities: the institution makes the decision, and 4notify delivers the notice to the student on their preferred channel.

Are NSFAS-funded students handled differently?

Yes — NSFAS recipients receive separate templates for funding confirmations, allowance disbursements and residence allocation reminders.
