Aayalolo BRT, GPRTU buses, Ghana Railway and the Accra-Tema toll: mobility alerts for the Ghanaian commuter

Hundreds of thousands of commuters use the Aayalolo Bus Rapid Transit corridor along the Graphic Road / Ofankor route every day; GPRTU runs the inter-regional bus network; Ghana Railway operates the Accra-Tema and Accra-Kumasi services; and the Accra-Tema Motorway toll processes millions of crossings annually. 4notify integrates with the operators' open-data feeds and delivers disruption notices and toll reminders on the customer's preferred channel.

Preamble

Whereas, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 of the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683) and the Ghana Highways Authority Act, 1997 (Act 540), this Proclamation is issued concerning the delivery of mobility alerts to the Ghanaian travelling public.

Statutory basis
Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683)

Governs the operation of the road network, public transport vehicles and the framework for toll collection.

Ghana Railway Authority Act, 2008 (Act 779)

Establishes the Ghana Railway Authority and its duty to inform passengers of timetable changes and disruption.

Implementation

Open-data + operator subscriptions

4notify subscribes to the open-data mobility feeds and the operator feeds for Aayalolo BRT, GPRTU and Ghana Railway; customer-side latency less than 90 seconds.

Line / station preference

The customer saves a corridor (e.g. "Aayalolo Graphic Road–Achimota") or a station pair; only the disruptions that affect their journey reach their inbox.

Toll reminder

Customers with a registered vehicle on the Accra-Tema motorway receive an end-of-day reminder when toll balance is low or unpaid crossings are outstanding.
