Profits tax, e-Filing and Business Registration: receipts and assessment notices to Hong Kong companies

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) operates the eTAX portal and the profits-tax e-Filing service under the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap. 112). Every chargeable company must file an annual profits-tax return; every business must renew its Business Registration certificate. 4notify integrates with Hong Kong accounting platforms and delivers acknowledgement of receipt, assessment-status notices and Business Registration reminders to the right tax representative.

Preamble

Whereas, by virtue of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap. 112) and the Business Registration Ordinance (Cap. 310), it is hereby ordained concerning the delivery of acknowledgement notices and assessment receipts in respect of profits-tax e-Filing.

Statutory basis
Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap. 112)

Legal basis for profits tax, salaries tax and property tax; obligations of chargeable persons and tax representatives.

Business Registration Ordinance (Cap. 310)

Annual renewal of the Business Registration certificate and the obligation to display it at the place of business.

IRD Departmental Interpretation and Practice Notes (DIPNs)

Technical guidance on e-Filing, eTAX accounts and electronic transmission of returns.

Implementation
01

Accounting-system webhook

4notify subscribes to the e-Filing queue of the company's ERP or accounting software; validation runs before forwarding to the IRD.

02

Acknowledgement of receipt + assessment notice

Acknowledgement to the filer within 60 seconds; assessment-status notice (accepted / under enquiry / rejected) within five minutes of the IRD response.

03

Routing to the correct tax representative

Using the BR number of the tax representative, the acknowledgement is routed to the responsible practitioner — not lost in a shared inbox.

04

Seven-year retention

Each return acknowledgement is preserved with a hash signature for seven years, in line with section 51C of Cap. 112 on record-keeping.

Frequently asked questions
Does 4notify need the company's eTAX credentials?

No. 4notify works on the acknowledgement envelopes that the accounting system emits; the connection to the IRD eTAX portal stays inside the taxpayer's software.

Does this cover Business Registration renewals too?

Yes — the annual BR renewal under Cap. 310 is handled in the same envelope, with reminders sent 30 / 14 / 7 days before the due date.
